The Unspeakable Oath was originally published by Pagan Publishing from 1990 to 2001. Most of these issues are out of print and very hard to find.

The Unspeakable Oath #1 (1990 Pre-Release Edition)

The earliest release of Issue 1 is distinguished by a smaller layout and a grey cover. It also lacks John Scott Tynes’ horrific poem about Shantak Claus and his review of Mansions of Madness. 56 pages.

This issue’s cover is by artist Dennis Detwiller, depicting the arrival of the King in Yellow at the Court of Yhtill. Articles include the Mythos in colonial New England; Lovecraftian films and how to run better games by watching them; and a look at the island of Ponape. Two scenarios dealing with cults are included: in “Cold War” you play Ithaqua cultists in 1990s Toronto; “Two Minutes On High” puts the investigators between warring cults in 1920s New England. 64 pages.

The Unspeakable Oath #12 (1995)

This issue’s cover is by artist Jason Voss, depicting a dread Dark Young of Shub-Niggurath. Articles include U.S. law enforcement in the 1920s & 1930s, the history of the infamous Crystal Skull, new spell options, and suggestions on keeping players on their toes. Two 1920s scenarios dealing with travel are included: in “Roadkill” a road trip turns into a horrific nightmare; “The Revival” places the investigators on a train ride into the Canadian wilderness that goes bloodily awry. Numerous “Tales of Terror” and “Mysterious Manuscripts” plus an extra-large reviews section round out the issue. 64 pages.

The Unspeakable Oath #13 (1995)

TUO 13 features a revamped interior layout, plus a beautiful cover by Daniel Gelon. Features include a new opinion column, a lengthy article on live-action CoC, the number 13, a report on the NecronomiCon convention, and our excellent Tales of Terror and Mysterious Manuscripts. Two scenarios are offered: in “Mirror, Mirror” new investigators get to look into an old disappearance; “Hands of the Living God” is for a single 1990s investigator, who gets tangled up with the mysterious Yellow Sign. Lots of reviews and miscellaneous goodies round out the issue. 64 pages.
